“White Owl” by Josh Garrels

For the second morning in a row, I’ve heard this song on the local Christian radio station on my way to work.

It’s by the Christian musician Josh Garrels whose musical style is described as ” a genre-blending mix of folk and hip hop” with “a voice that is sometimes beatific, sometimes brazen. Garrels’ songs explore themes of compassion, hope, longing, and liberation.”

My musical taste is somewhat esoteric, I guess, so to my ears a lot of contemporary Christian music is very bland and samey, merely imitating secular music, rather than rising above it.

For me, though, Josh Garrels’ music soars above a lot of both the secular and Christian music I come across.

Josh has made a new fan in me.

Dance Like Nobody’s Watching

Angela Trimbur likes to dance, and she’s really good at it (in my opinion anyway).

She’s posted a few videos online of her dancing in public places – dancing like nobody is watching.

I can’t dance in any way that people would admire or be impressed by, but I make my kids laugh and that’s good enough for me.

Beautiful Bicycles – Chiaki’s White Hart City from Tomii Cycles

Nao Tomii moved from Japan to Massachusetts in the U.S.A. to study art.

From there he started scultping and eventually fused his love of sculpture with his love of cycling to form Tomii Cycles, where he creates utilitarian sculptures in the form of beautiful custom-built bicycles.

The city bike he built for Chiaki is testament to his skill as a designer and builder of beautiful things made of steel.

Jewellery For Your Bike

My friends think I’m a little strange because I have a strip of leather with wooden beads threaded through it hanging from my bike saddle.

I got the idea from a picture I found somewhere on the interwebs of some sort of jewellery hanging from the saddle of a fixed gear bike.

I call this Bike Jewellery.

Some would rail against such an idea, desiring nothing but the pristine shiny steel of their machines to be put on public display.

But for others, their bike is a fashion accessory which needs to be prettied up to suit their personality, just like the rest of their belongings.

Here is another example of Bike Jewellery from Japan.

And here are some walnuts sparkled up and hung as bike nuts.
